Micro-chipping

Unfortunately we no longer offer microchipping as it's now a legal requirement and is done when first registering with vets but here is some information on the subject you may find useful...

Why should we have our dogs chipped?

Millions of dogs go missing every year and tragically, few are reunited with their owners.
If your beloved pet becomes lost, he or she could end up in an animal shelter and adopted out to a new home and you’d be none the wiser.
Loads of dogs aren’t chipped and the problem is if they have a tag on their collar the tags can come off and get lost and also their collars can come loose and slip off if they’re swimming or get caught up.
Chips are one of the only permanent way of identification so it means if a lost dog wanders into the police station, home or any vet practice it will be scanned and their details will be connected up with the owners and they’ll be returned as soon as possible.
It’s still quite useful to have a collar with a tag on it because it means that anyone that finds [your dog] will pick up on a phone number and it’s a bit quicker than taking the dog to a vet’s or the police first.

How does it work?

Micro-chipping your dog is a fairly simple procedure which involves inserting a chip the size of a grain of rice below the skin. The chip comes already implanted in a wide bore needle which is inserted in the back of the neck, between the shoulder blades on the dorsal midline.
The chip has a unique ID number which when scanned with a special reader can be matched to the owner's details on a national database. Rescue centres, animal wardens and vets are all able to scan for this permanent form of identification. It is very important to keep your pet's chip details up-to-date with your contact details so you can be contacted if your pet is found.

If you move house or change telephone numbers, remember to let your chip provider know.

Aswell as very practical this is also a very inexpensive one off cost for you.

It only costs 15 pounds to have your dog implanted at Grooming Marvellous. It is a very quick procedure that can be done with you there or if you prefer you can wait outside, please give us a call to book an appointment, our contact details are at the bottom of this page.

If you do have a chip that needs updating you can do this by calling 0800 652 8 977 or www.petchipupdate.com
